I was looking at all of my MAC lipsticks and glosses that I have in my closet cause I hardly wear lipstick, (I’m a chapstick kind of gal or I just slap some good ol’ Vaseline applied to these lips and go out the door), when I realized that I had these lipsticks for quite some time (more than a year). Is there a certain amount of time that a woman should keep lipsticks and glosses in her possession?
Naturally, I clicked on the Google search engine to find out the answer cause Google knows everything of course and here are a few quick tips that I learned:
Lipstick and lip liner One year
Lipgloss 18-24 months
I found these and other makeup tips above at http://www.popsugar.com/au/beauty/How-Long-Can-You-Keep-Makeup-Lipstick-Foundation-Mascara-32109079
I now need to go throw away every lipstick I own and just start over or just buy lipgloss because they last longer and I’ll probably wear those more. Now ladies, if your lipstick is down to the bottom of the tube and you are scrapping it out with a brush or here’s a throwback for you, using a Q-tip and applying the lipstick……please just discard it and buy a new one. Treat yourself to a new shade of lipstick, I’m sure you deserve it.
Next, after searching for how long one should keep lipstick? I then begin searching for ways to clean lipstick that is also harmless to your lips and this is what I found online also:
“Pour some rubbing alcohol or vodka into a small dish and submerge your exposed lipstick into the solution for at least 30-seconds. Afterwards you can allow it to air dry, or gently wipe dry with a clean tissue. This includes any type of makeup pencil from lip liner to eyeliner, brow pencil, etc.” – About.com
Now I don’t know about you, but I’m not wasting some vodka that would go great with a splash of cranberry juice and a splash of orange juice and a slice of lime dropped in it…..on cleaning some damn lipstick. I’ll stick to pouring some rubbing alcohol on it and letting it air dry. I’m sure you can find other cleaning tips for lipsticks from following your favorite MUA on social medias or watching tutorials on YouTube.
Let’s go into the new year with new, germ-free, cleaned lipsticks ladies. What’s some lipstick cleaning tips that you can share with women? Post your tips in the comments.
