I've noticed that without making it a goal, I've been taking better care of myself holistically. I am more intentional about maintaining good health and wellness practices in my life. I could be unconsciously, realizing that I'm knocking on the door of turning 40 years old in two more years or just something that naturally has come along as a part of my life. I'm not a "gym rat" neither do I wish to be one. Shout out to you ladies who are hitting that gym every week, I admire you and cheering you on every week.

I believe that there are five basic things you can do to stay healthy. Here is what I do daily, weekly or annually, to stay healthy:

  1. Take daily vitamin supplements: I take a daily vitamin especially made for women called Opti Women. I now take two of those vitamins daily because I noticed that throughout the day, my energy decreases. (It is recommended on the bottle to take up to two vitamins per day). I want to start taking iron pills for that exact reason and will probably take them at night before I go to bed. According to Health Guide, " Vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients because they perform hundreds of roles in the body. There is a fine line between getting enough of these nutrients (which is healthy) and getting too much (which can end up harming you). Eating a healthy diet remains the best way to get sufficient amounts of the vitamins and minerals you need (2018)."

  2. Diet: Ask your doctor what specific diet you need to do before you commit yourself to anything. For me, thankfully, I naturally eat healthy. I love fruits and cooking fresh vegetables instead of canned foods, I will bake instead of frying foods, I don't eat junk or fast foods often and I don't care for sweets. I snack on healthier foods and fruit throughout my day because I don't eat large meals at one time .....talk about getting itis if I do that. I've been drinking tea more instead of coffee. I often drink wine instead of hard liqours which is harmful to your body and it leaves me feeling sick and hungover the next day.

  3. Light or fun exercises: I love taking walks or doing something fun like playing basketball, bowling, skating or anything that helps me get this body moving and staying in shape. I've also done in-home fun exercises like dancing to zumba tutorials on YouTube videos. Google some light exercises that you can do in the comforts of your home or outdoors. Even while you're traveling on vacation, you can still do light or fun exercises.

  4. Get those annual checkups: It is imperative to get annual check ups ladies. I know we hate those awful pap smears or we're simply afraid to know if something is going on with our bodies. If you have family histories of illnesses or diseases, it is great to become educated on preventative methods to use or being under the care and treatment of a physician, will likely keep you healthy in your medical condition. Sexual health is important too. Get tested for STI/HIV!!!! Knowing your results can be life saving.

  5. Self-care: If you follow me on Instagram (@feliciatsimpson), then you know that my weekends are always catered towards self-care. Self-care is not always about going to a spa but more about taking care of your mind, body and soul. I do self-care daily to deal with stress that arises, but I really do extra things and take my time on the weekends because I'm not being rushed.
