As you know, if you’ve been following me on social media or read my previous post, I’m transitioning to natural hair. I haven’t had a perm in a while, because I normally don’t perm my hair often anyway, (too lazy, mainly). So during Essence Festival 2018, I decided to stock up on Mielle Organics when I attended the pop-up shop. I purchased eight products for a total of $40!!!!!! …. It was a buy one get one free sale happening that day.
Here’s a list of the products that I purchased that day:
Brazilian Curly Cocktail Curl Mousse
White Peony Leave-In Conditioner
Detangling Co-wash
Mint Almond Oil
Conditioning Shampoo (Sulfate-free)
Mongongo Oil Style Setting Spray
Edge Gel
Pomegranate & Honey Twisting Souffle’
I have used on a weekly basis, all of the products except for the Curly Cocktail Curl Mousse. I haven’t used it yet only because I haven’t had a style that I’ve done yet, that I need to use it. My favorites are the leave-in conditioner spray, the Mint Almond Oil and the Twisting Souffle’ because my go to style right now are braid-outs. It’s so easy to do and not so much time consuming. I love the Mint Almond Oil because my hair can get dry and it smells so good in my hair.
While transitioning to natural hair, perm rods are your best friends for those straight ends due to the permed part of your hair that still exists. So I love spraying the Mongongo Oil Style Setting Spray on my ends before I wrap my ends around the perm rods. From my research on natural hair while transitioning, the ends of your hair are the most delicate so you want to make sure you are extra gentle and kind to them. So knowing that the setting spray, also contains, oil to help keep my ends moisturized, is a huge incentive for me.
Sunday’s are my wash day. Another thing I learned throughout this transitioning process is that you must be consistent with how you treat and maintenance your hair. Which is not exactly what I did with my permed hair which equals the results of, dry hair, heat damage, a lot of shedding, etc. Yesterday I used the Detangling Co-wash for the first time, because I’m tender-headed and you want to avoid pulling your hair out any chance you get. This product detangle my hair quickly and with ease, I promise I didn’t cringe not one time while combing through my hair with a wide toothed comb first and then with my Denman brush. PLEASE invest in those two items when combing through your hair. Yesterday was the first time that I identified where my demarcation line was while I was detangling my hair with the co-wash.
Now when it comes to my edges, I’ve never been a gel type of person mainly because I only used the Ampro Pro Style brown gel and Jam back in the day, hello 20’s I miss you!!!! So usually I would just touch up my edges with perm when they were just too out of control. But with Mielle’s edge gel, I love it because it’s not flaky or too greasy or heavy on my edges. I only use it when necessary because I like to preserve my edges so I don’t keep a lot of products on my edges…. I just oil them and go! My hair hides my edges most of the time anyway so from the eyes of others, you wouldn’t know if my edges were snatched or not lol.
I am missing from this collection the Oil and Mint Deep Conditioner that I will be purchasing and eventually I’ll probably purchase the Exfoliating Shampoo that I’ll use once a month. Mielle Organics also have a skin line, hair products for kids and vitamins.
If you are using the Mielle Organics products, what’s your favorites and why? Share tips while using these products in the comments.
