About two years ago, I stopped going to nail salons and getting my manicures and pedicures and opted to do them myself. As an evolving business owner, and living in a new city, I was trying to find ways to save money and this was one the best ways to do it. I then went on a self-care challenge last year and giving yourself a mani and pedi was one of my daily activities. It is so peaceful to do in your own space and in the moments where you really can sit, relax and think.
I've never been the one to follow rules much, so I don't use pastels or neon colors in the summer. I typically stick to a pink, a purple or clear mostly.
Let's us not forget that adding your favorite glass of wine or snacks to this self-care moment is definitely a treat as long as you are careful not to mess up the polish.
Starting out, I give myself a pedicure first because I can still use my hands if I need to move around or pick up something. Next, while the nail polish is drying on my toes, I thoroughly clean my nails because they are exposed to germs the most. I'm a writer so my hands and fingers are very important to me and I treat them with care. You can purchase nail clipping tools at your local stores such as Walmart, Walgreens or Target. The Dollar Tree really has a nice selection of these tools also and you can ball out because of course each item is $1.
Usually for my photoshoots my nails are clear because I use my hands to showcase products and that looks more professional to me than using any color polishes. But when I'm hanging out with my friends or on any ordinary days, you can find me in these nail polish colors.
I also love a light grey or charcoal colored nail polish because it pairs so well with my skin color. The OPI, French Quarter for Your Thoughts is a perfect gray for me. I love the consistency of the nail lacquer and it doesn't chip easily.
